The Hunger Games boosts Lionsgate’s Profit


New York : Box-office movie “The Hunger Games” opening weekend which debuted with estimated $155 million, ultimately lead to more than $300 million in profit for independent studio Lionsgate.
The movie which is directed by Gary Ross based on the novel “The Hunger Games” written by Suzzane Collins. It stars Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence as main character Katniss, Josh Hutcherson  as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket.
Hunger Games’ first show of the trilogy had the highest-grossing first weekend  and the third-largest opening weekend, as Canada's largest movie theatre company said on Thursday in Yahoo! News. 
As seen at LaTimes’ blog, the international results of this movie are in the same line with the first show in the "Twilight" and "Harry Potter", indicating that the sequels to "The Hunger Games" will make more money.
Not only high profit, "The Hunger Games" also did well with critics, and made 86% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The next movie in the sequel, "Catching Fire," is planned to hit theaters in November 2013.
With two sequels to come which are “Catching Fire” and “Mocking Jay”, Lionsgate expects to make $1.5 billion profit or more. That’s a significant success for this independent studio despite they got struggled in last four years in film production. 
Monica Dicenso of JP Morgan predicted that this film will produce #310 million in profit and the sequel will generate $1.5 billion. Not just the film, Lionsgate expands his business by making Hunger Games’ souvenir like T-shirts. -KZF
